Maura G. O'Brien, DVM, DACVS
Dr. O’Brien is a 1987 graduate of the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing an internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, she completed a three-year residency in small animal surgery at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and Angell Memorial Hospital, in Massachusetts. She was then accepted as a Fellow in Surgical Oncology at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine (1991-1993).
She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Board Certification – 1993)
Prior to relocating back to Wisconsin her clinical experience included eight years as a surgeon and head of the surgery department at the VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital followed by three years as a associate with Surgical Options, LLC, in Madison, Wisconsin. A 2-year temporary relocation to the western United States initiated the creation of Orchard Road Veterinary Surgery, inc. a mobile veterinary surgical practice based in Northern Colorado and Wyoming. This period was followed by a return to Madison in the fall of 2006.
She is married to Dr. David Vail, DVM, DACVIM, who is a Professor of Oncology at the University of Wisconsin-SVM. She enjoys horseback riding, gardening and time with their family as well as their dogs, cats and horse.
